A diverse North Indian birding adventure spanning foothill forests, migratory wetlands, Himalayan valleys and the pristine wilderness of Great Himalayan National Park.
Overview
The North India GHNP Birding Tour is a 15-day birding and wildlife journey across some of North India’s most diverse habitats, combining the Jim Corbett National Park, Asan Barrage, Tirthan Valley and Great Himalayan National Park. From Himalayan foothill forests and wetlands to dense temperate forests and alpine meadows, the tour offers an exceptional variety of landscapes and birdlife.
The journey begins in Delhi and continues to Corbett, where forest birding provides opportunities to explore the rich avian diversity of the Himalayan foothills. The route then moves to Asan Barrage, an important wetland habitat for migratory birds, where winter visitors such as Ruddy Shelduck, Bar-headed Geese, ducks and waders can be observed.
The expedition then enters the Tirthan Valley and Great Himalayan National Park, with trekking along the Tirthan River through Sai Ropa and Rolla before ascending towards Khorli Poi and Kharongcha. These forest and alpine habitats provide opportunities to search for rare Himalayan species, including birds associated with Western Tragopan habitat.
With approximately 1,300–1,500 km of travel and trekking reaching around 3,300 metres, this Easy–Moderate expedition combines comfortable birding walks, scenic drives and moderate mountain trekking, making it ideal for birdwatchers, wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts.
