Chakri Peak Expedition

10 Days
Great Himalayan National Park

Embark on a challenging 10-days  Chakri Peak Expedition through the remote wilderness of Great Himalayan National Park, exploring ancient forests, alpine meadows, and sacred high-altitude landscapes with an optional specialist mountaineering objective.

A challenging high-altitude extension into the remote upper reaches of the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), combining the classic Tirath trek with an exploratory climb towards Chakri Peak. The journey begins in Tirthan Valley, following the Tirthan River through ancient forests, riverside camps and alpine meadows before reaching the sacred Tirath landscape. From the upper valley, experienced mountaineers can explore the Saketi area and undertake a locally assessed approach towards Chakri Peak, subject to route conditions and park authorization. The Chakri Peak extension is best treated as a specialist mountaineering objective, not a guaranteed walk-up summit. The approach, summit route and technical requirements must be verified with experienced local guides before the expedition is operated.

Itinerary

Day 01 :
Gushaini → Rolla

Approximately 9–10 km · 4–5 hours · Camp around 2,100 m
Begin the expedition by following the Tirthan River through the forested valley. Pass streams, waterfalls and rich temperate forest before reaching Rolla, near the entrance to the park's core trekking area. Settle into camp and prepare for the ascent.

Day 02 :
Rolla → Nada Thach

Approximately 12 km · 6–8 hours · Camp around 3,300 m
Climb through oak and conifer forests towards Nada Thach. The sustained ascent leads into an open meadow with excellent opportunities for birdwatching and mountain photography. Rest well and monitor how the group is adjusting to the altitude.

Day 03 :
Nada Thach → Majhoni

Approximately 12 km · 5–7 hours · High camp around 3,300–3,800 m, route-dependent
Continue through remote forest and high-altitude terrain towards Majhoni. The trail traverses steep slopes and less-developed mountain paths, with changing vegetation and increasingly expansive views. Establish camp and prepare for the upper valley.

Day 04 :
Majhoni → Tirath → Saketi High Camp

Full trekking day · Saketi around 4,000 m
Follow the upper Tirthan Valley towards Tirath, a sacred landscape associated with the source of the Tirthan River. Continue towards Saketi if the approved route, weather and group condition permit. Set up a high camp beneath the surrounding mountain ridges and review the proposed Chakri approach with the climbing leader.

Day 05 :
Acclimatization and Chakri Peak Reconnaissance

Short guided exploration · Overnight at high camp
Spend the day acclimatizing and assessing the proposed summit route with the local expedition leader. Review terrain, snow cover, exposure, weather and equipment requirements. Keep activity light and return to camp well before evening. The summit attempt should proceed only if the route has been verified and the team is properly equipped.

Day 06 :
Chakri Peak Summit Attempt → High Camp

Summit day · Duration and route distance to be confirmed locally
Start early if the climbing leader confirms safe conditions. Follow the approved approach towards Chakri Peak, using appropriate mountaineering equipment and rope protection where necessary. Assess snow, ice and rock conditions continuously. Return to high camp by the agreed turnaround time, regardless of whether the summit is reached.

Day 07 :
Weather Buffer and Descent to Majhoni

Flexible contingency day
Keep this day available for a delayed summit attempt if conditions and the expedition plan allow. Otherwise, descend from Saketi towards Majhoni, allowing sufficient time for safe movement on steep or slippery sections. A summit attempt should never be forced to fit the schedule.

Day 08 :
Majhoni → Nada Thach

Approximately 12 km · 5–7 hours
Retrace the route through the upper forest and meadow landscapes towards Nada Thach. Take care on uneven and steep sections, particularly after several days at altitude. Camp at Nada Thach and recover.

Day 09 :
Nada Thach → Rolla

Approximately 12 km · 5–7 hours
Descend through the forested trail towards Rolla, passing streams and the lower mountain ecosystem. Enjoy the return journey through the wilderness while allowing time for careful footing. Camp at Rolla for the final night on the trail.

Day 10 :
Rolla → Gushaini

Approximately 9–10 km · 3–5 hours
Follow the Tirthan River downstream and return to Gushaini. Conclude the expedition after completing the wilderness approach and, if conditions permitted, the Chakri Peak climbing objective.
