The Sikkim Homestay Birding Tour is a scenic 9-day birding and nature journey through the diverse landscapes of Dzongu, Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim. The tour combines rich Himalayan birdlife, traditional Lepcha culture, spectacular mountain scenery and comfortable stays in local homestays and mountain hotels.
The journey begins in the peaceful Dzongu Lepcha Reserve, where forest trails, waterfalls and traditional villages provide excellent opportunities to observe species such as Rufous-necked Hornbill, Sibias, Laughingthrushes, Sunbirds and other Himalayan forest birds. Local birding walks also offer an intimate introduction to the region’s culture and natural environment.
The route then climbs towards Lachen and the high-altitude landscapes of North Sikkim, culminating in an excursion to the spectacular Gurudongmar Lake at 5,430 metres. Birding around Lachen provides opportunities to encounter high-altitude species such as Himalayan Monal and Grandala, while the journey onwards to Lachung passes through beautiful rhododendron forests and mountain valleys.
